INTRODUCING SUNNYRBOOK’S
YOUTH SAFETY LAB
Welcome to the Youth Safety Lab! A one-day program designed to explore personal and community safety.
The morning will center on primary prevention strategies to reduce the likelihood and severity of injury through the updated P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol & Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) Program. Students will learn first-hand from people living long-term with injury, from front line health care professionals and first responders. Students will have an opportunity to visit areas of the hospital where injured patients are treated. Of course, after a busy morning, students will enjoy a fresh pizza lunch.
The afternoon will focus on secondary prevention strategies including certification in the STOP THE BLEED® Course. This course will enable students to develop confidence and competence in tangible life-saving skills to address critical bleeding incidents. Students will learn how to identify bleeding, and control it with compression, wound packing and tourniquet application. Students will leave the Youth Safety Lab armed with new awareness, knowledge and skills to prevent and manage injury if it occurs.
Understanding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, all programming is compliant with infection, prevention and control protocols to protect visitors, patients and staff. Programming is subject to change as determined by internal and external restrictions. Our commitment is to work in collaboration to minimize interruptions to learning.
