It is safe to read, but not send text messages while driving.

Reading and texting are just a little unsafe.
Reading is easy, but texting is unsafe.
C'mon, they're obviously both unsafe.

Marijuana
What is it?
Names: Cannabis, Marijuana, Hash, Hash oil
Marijuana comes from the cannabis plant.
Cannabis can be smoked or eaten.
The sticky resin of the plant can be dried into dark brown chunks….a.k.a. hashish.

Effects of marijuana on school, sports, and other things
Cannabis can effect all sorts of things – and not for the better.
Marijuana affects memory, judgement and perception.
The drug can mess someone up in school, in sports, or with friends.
If someone's high they are more likely to make stupid mistakes that could embarrass or even hurt them.Like what?……like forgetting to have safe sex and possibly exposing themselves to HIV and other STD's (sexually transmitted diseases), or getting behind the wheel of the car while they aren't "with it".

"Spot the "PotHead"
If someone is high from marijuana he or she might:

  • Seem dizzy and have trouble walking
  • Seem silly and have "the giggles" for no reason
  • Have really red or bloodshot eyes
  • Have a hard time remembering things that just happened (bad short term memory)
Health
Cannabis smoke contains more tar and cancer-causing chemicals than tobacco smoke.
Smoking marijuana may make asthma and bronchitis worse.
If people use marijuana over a period of time they are at risk for the same types of diseases that tobacco smokers are (e.g. lung and throat cancer).

Alcohol Poisoning
What is it?
It happens wheen someone drinks a large amount of alcohol in a short period of time through:
  • Binge drinking (having more than 5 drinks during a drinking episode)
  • Drinking games
  • Funneling
  • Chugging
If someone drinks too much too fast, the amount of alcohol in a person's blood - called Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) - rises to a high level really quickly
A BAC of 200-300mg% would likely causae alcohol poisoning
Alcohol poisoning can cause brain damage or death
Someone who blacks out, passes out, or throws up is on her or his way to alcohol poisoning
Signs that someone has alcohol poisoning include:
  • Passing out, semi-conscious
  • Cold, pale, or bluish skin
  • Vomiting while sleeping
  • Slow or irregular breathing
  • Seizures
